If ever I were to be transported to another world, I had always expected to be greeted by status screens, a Hero’s Quest, overpowered skills, and adventure aplenty.
Instead, I became part of an experimental cohort summoned by a race of tentacled, magic-obsessed creatures, who were inefficiently fishing extradimensional planes in the offchance of discovering undocumented magical abilities. Naturally, I had less Arcana than even the average human adult, and no understanding of the history of this world.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an isekai without a Demon Lord lurking somewhere. Unfortunately, said demons were the generous collaborators of my captors, funding and supporting their studies in exchange for reaping the benefits of new magic.
My only hope for salvation? A couple years of lab experience, an ability to come up with academic-sounding bullshit on the fly despite knowing nothing about the technicalities of magic, a complete and utter lack of shame if it meant letting me live, and an inexplicable chance occurance of magic that let me understand the native tongue of these Lovecraftian scientists. Now, I find myself in a strange position as questionable research assistant, research subject, forced labour, and object of curiosity to my captor. Who ever said that academia was a dead-end career track?
If I want to return back to Earth, I will need to catch up on eons of magical study, escape from captivity, and hope that I don’t get caught up in this war between the natives of Pellan and invading demons from another world.
